Residential and non-residential clients of The First 72+ come to us from referrals by the Parole Board, local attorneys, legal organizations, state and federal courts, family members of incarcerated people, and direct inquiries from currently incarcerated people and people recently released. Potential clients who are not currently incarcerated are also free to walk through our doors and do an intake to receive services.
We support clients with clothes, food, accessing vital records, enrollment in public benefits, visits with parole/probation, healthcare (through the FIT Clinic). and more.
We have expanded our transitional housing services to two houses with around fifteen available beds. Even if we are not able to house someone, we are able to provide all other services, including ongoing case management, peer-mentorship, financial literacy and job support, public benefits assistance, partner referrals, group classes, and more.
From the date we help sign folks up for SNAP, there is typically a waiting period of up to 3-4 weeks that individuals are without their benefits. During that gap, clients face few affordable or practical food options. Our food pantry helps bridge the gap during those "in between" weeks to provide immediate, accessible nourishment.
Help us feed our community by donating canned foods and other ready-to-eat meals straight to our office, or donate to our GoFundMe page using the link below!
Moving? Spring cleaning? Keep the First 72+ in mind!
Many clients come home with only the clothes on their back. Our clothing closet helps provide professional clothes for work interviews, as well as casual wear. We take both men and women's clothes! To donate, come by our office anytime between 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday.
We are also in need of items for our clients to furnish their next home once they have left our transitional housing. Please donate your good condition mattresses, kitchen tables, dish ware, kitchenware, etc. To make a donation, please call 504-324-8859 to set up a pick up or drop off time.
Help us give the warmest welcome to our residents with our Amazon Wishlist! This list is an easy way to buy basic necessities for our clients - toiletries, bedding, food, and so on.
All items bought through our wishlist will come straight to our door, making the donation process simple and direct!
